May 2024 newsletter The importance of every position
April 30, 2024 11:26 am Comments Off on May 2024 newsletter The importance of every positionThe importance of every position What is your position at your company? Are you the CEO, a mid-level manager, the receptionist, an admin, or maybe a janitor? All of those people play equally important roles in running a successful company. I recently had a great conversation with my good friend June Mayher, who was one of my classmates at Burke High School in Omaha, Nebraska. June works at the accounting firm where I am a client. When I dropped off some docs over there a few days ago, June and I talked about the importance of her being the “everything person” at the accounting firm. June referred to it as being the low man on the totem pole, but I believe she is quite the opposite. Her role helps the company be successful. Our conversation stayed on my mind for the rest of the day. It made me think about the roles we all play in our companies. When I opened my first company in 1993, we would not have experienced the level of success we had over the 16 years that I was at the helm without the contributions of everyone at every position. I believe the receptionist is where it all starts, because that person sets the tone of the company not only for the clients but also for the employees. Next is the admin staff, both full- and part-time. Without them, there would be no processing or accountability. In other words, they make the...
April 2024 Newsletter Replace fear with BOLDNESS !
March 30, 2024 11:43 am Comments Off on April 2024 Newsletter Replace fear with BOLDNESS !Replace fear with boldness Do you feel like something is holding you back from doing what you really want to do? If so, you’re not alone. Luckily, there is something you can do about it. When I entered the real estate business at age 23, I was nervous about being on straight commission. To bring in enough money to feed myself and pay my bills, I waited tables part-time. I knew what I wanted to do, but fear was holding me back. “Inaction breeds doubt and fear. Action breeds confidence and courage. If you want to conquer fear, do not sit home and think about it. Go out and get busy.” —Dale Carnegie At that point I made the most important decision of my entire 41-year career: I decided to be bold. I told myself, “I am going to be bold. I’m not going to be scared of being on straight commission. I am going to use that unproductive energy to carry out my mission.” My mission was—and still is—to be great at whatever I do, especially when it involves real estate. I woke up every morning with the attitude that nothing was going to stop me from reaching my goals. Instead of worrying about challenges that might lie ahead, I overcame my fear and kept going. I am telling you this not to impress you, but to impress upon you that each of us can make a commitment to be bold. You can...
March 2024 Newsletter Think and grow rich
February 29, 2024 2:27 pm Comments Off on March 2024 Newsletter Think and grow richThink and grow rich In today’s world, it’s easy to find reasons to feel discouraged or down. This usually happens when you start focusing on things you can’t change. The good news is that there will always be one area where you have total control, and that is your outlook on life. If you need a mood lifter right now, I highly recommend reading Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill. It was first published in 1937 and is still the best-selling self-help book ever written. It will teach you how to attain wealth and success through positive thinking, persistence, and focused desire. The author offers practical techniques and inspiring examples of successful people who achieved their dreams by using these same principles. “You are the master of your destiny. You can influence, direct, and control your own environment. You can make your life what you want it to be.” — Napoleon Hill One of the quotes from this book that I repeat over and over in my speeches is “If you can conceive it and believe it, you can achieve it.” That quote from Think and Grow Rich has been deep in my core since I first started selling real estate in 1983. Back then I had no mentors, no one telling me “You can do anything you want to do in life,” or any other form of encouragement, so I decided to create my own motivation by reading positive self-help books. Reading...
February 2024 Newsletter Show us your greatness
January 31, 2024 12:10 am Comments Off on February 2024 Newsletter Show us your greatnessShow us your greatness! If you’ve been reading my newsletters for a while, you know that I end each of them by asking, “If not now, then when? And if not you, then who?” My reason for asking you these questions is to create a sense of urgency to accomplish things that are important to you. No matter how small or how big your goal might be, there’s no better time to start working on it than right now! “Greatness comes by doing a few small and smart things each and every day. Comes from taking little steps, consistently. Comes from making a few small chips against everything in your professional and personal life that is ordinary, so that a day eventually arrives when all that’s left is The Extraordinary.” —Robin S. Sharma My challenge to you today is to do a self-awareness checkup. If I asked you, “What are you great at?” what would you tell me? It may take a while for you to answer this question, and that is okay. My intention is to make you think. Maybe your answer would be “I am not great at anything” (which I doubt is true). If that’s really how you feel, then I would ask you, “What do you want to be great at?” Everybody wants to be great at something. If we concentrate on doing what we are great at, we will usually be happy doing it. The wonderful news is that we each...

December 2023 Newsletter Become someone’s miracle
November 29, 2023 10:16 pm Comments Off on December 2023 Newsletter Become someone’s miracleBecome someone’s miracle In December, most of us are making goals and resolutions for the upcoming year. In addition to doing this, why not also make plans that will benefit others? What would it feel like to become someone’s miracle in 2024? The definition of a miracle will vary for each of us. For me, being someone’s miracle means making a HUGE difference in their life by being intentional and laser-focused on making things happen. “I know from personal experience how fear and low self-worth can cripple one’s ability to succeed in life. But with a little support, caring, and inspiration, miracles can happen.” —Richard Hatch If somebody asked me to make a list of ways I could be a miracle to others, my list might look like this: Find out about a dream or wish of someone I know, and then do my best to help make it a reality. Help someone with a task that they cannot accomplish alone. Offer words of encouragement. Sometimes people just need verbal support and resolutions to challenges. Connect with people who could use my resources and connections to help them advance. Become deeply involved in a non-profit organization and ask them how I can support their mission. Help a teacher who is working hard to educate the next generation. One way I could do this is by adopting a classroom or department at a local school. “Miracles happen every...
