November 2024 Good News ! Focus on being better today than yesterday
Focus on being better today than yesterday
Who is in charge of us improving our lives? That’s right. It’s you. You and no one but you. So now the simple question is what are you doing to make that happen? What actions are you taking to be better today than yesterday. It can be minimal or monumental, the plan is to move your needle forward a little every day.
I am an over-thinker, i sometimes over analyze situations ,however that mindset has worked for me my entire career. I think about yesterday and how I could be better at a meeting I was in, better communication in a conversation with a coworker or maybe a response I made that I could have said in a different way. Is this being critical of myself? absolutely! If I am not being my own judge, jury and sheriff then who is? I am not saying that I beat myself up, far from it I just want to be aware of what i could do better today and maybe not make the same error as yesterday, if I did.
“The only person you should try to be better than is the person you were yesterday”
I believe in change, changing for the better. If I don’t like something about myself or i know an area i can improve on, my attitude is “lets change it now or at least make an effort to” I would hate to go through life being the same person i was yesterday and not experience personal growth.
“Waking up this morning, I smile. Twenty-four brand new hours are before me. I vow to live fully in each moment.”– Thich Nhat Hanh
The best thing about having the mindset that we can be better today than yesterday is …WE CAN! We have the God-given ability to make it happen, if we truly want to. I do! I look for constructive suggestions from my closest friends, i am not afraid to get their opinions because they matter to me. If i ask for their opinion or suggestions I take it very seriously because they know me and they know how important it is to me to get better every day. How can I effectively preach to audiences about becoming our best selves if I am not doing it myself. When I speak to large and small organizations, they want to hear the results of my experiences and how it can relate to them. Stories of making improvements every day on every level of our lives. This is how we learn; this is how we get better. Paying attention not just to other victories but also their failures. This is the knowledge we need to move our needle forward.
“When you arise in the morning, think of what a precious privilege it is to be alive—to breathe, to think, to enjoy, to love “– Marcus Aurelius
Focusing on being better today will not cost you one red cent! That’s right, getting better is FREE! Actually, it can cost you if you don’t have this mindset! The following are a few of my beliefs on focusing on being better today!
- It will take your mind off the negative things you are facing by concentrating on the positives.
- It will give you purpose and contribute to being intentional about making today count.
- You will encourage, inspire and empower those around you to want to do the same and emulate your positive attitude
- You will open up new opportunities that might not have otherwise come your way
- You will determine what really matters in your life and what doesn’t
“I want every day to be a fresh start on expanding what is possible”. – Oprah Winfrey
To me every second of every waking minute is a gift. I am overwhelmed with gratitude because I choose to be. I owe a lot of my success in my life to being grateful and never forgetting where I came from, starting out with only $500 to my name.
Those of you who have witnessed one of my speeches know that I truly believe there is nothing we can’t do if we want something bad enough.
You have the God-given ability to make the decision now to FOCUS on getting better today than you were yesterday. Let’s do it!!!!
