More passion, more sales

Would you agree that it’s way more enjoyable to purchase a product or service if the provider likes their job? I personally prefer not to purchase a product or a service from someone who is not passionate about what they do for a living. Notice that I said “I prefer not to” instead of “I will not.” I understand that not everybody is going to be excited about what they do for a living, and if that’s the case I hope that they’ll find something that they do love. I do know that when I purchase a product or service from somebody who is passionate and excited about what they do, my experience is much better.

Passion is energy. Feel the power that comes from focusing on what excites you.”

– Oprah Winfrey

Your passions become what you chase when you wake up every day, whether they involve work or pleasure. Without passion, your life may feel like it has no purpose. Discovering your passions is crucial if you want to lead a life fueled by purpose and one you won’t regret in years to come. I thank the good Lord every day that I still love selling real estate and speaking to groups of people. We all gravitate to people who are bright lights not just as individuals but also in their career. I love doing business with people who like their job, and I am happy to refer them to others whenever possible.

One of my favorite ways to explain the importance of being passionate about your career is to share the following quote from Walt Disney: “I want to make the customer’s experience so magical that they want to come back and see it again and again.” Isn’t that what sales and service is all about? YES!!!

The only way to do great work is to love what you do.” – Steve Jobs

In my 41-year real estate career and my 25-year motivational speaking business, the majority of my customers are repeats or referrals from past clients. That tells me I am making their experience enjoyable and that they want others to experience it as well. That is my ultimate goal!

If you are trying to be the absolute best version of yourself and you want to be an exceptional sales or service person, you’ll be interested in the following suggestions. They are the basics and fundamentals for being known as a passionate sales or service person.

Passion is so key in leading and creating excellence that I will hire passion over education and talent every time.” – Dave Ramsey

  1. When you meet someone, be sure to greet them immediately. Don’t wait for them to say hello or put their hand out. Always initiate a hello along with an enthusiastic smile. This will set the tone for a productive conversation.

  1. Say something meaningful and positive in the beginning of your dialogue. If they say something negative, do your best to change the narrative to get the conversation back to being positive and happy. You do not want to engage in anything but positivity, which in turn will be a reflection on you.

  1. Be knowledgeable about your product or service. Knowledge is power, and the more knowledgeable you are, the easier it will be for you to feel passionate about your career. One way to set yourself apart from your competitors is to know more than they do. I promise that being knowledgeable will pay dividends over and over. Never stop learning about your industry!

  1. Put your future customer in the story when you’re describing how you provide your service or product, and make sure that everything you say benefits them. Contribute to opening up their mind to visualizing themselves as your customer. It’s totally up to you to make that happen. Remember never to mention a feature of your product or service unless it benefits them.

  1. Show your passion for what you do by letting people know that you will be available to them. One of the most common statements I say to my future clients is “I am available for you 24/7. There is no such thing as an unimportant question, so feel free to call me on my direct line whenever you need me.” Just making that offer will let them know that you’re passionate about your career, and in my 41 years of offering that promise to my clients it has been very rare for anyone to call me at an inappropriate time. The point is I made that offer to them.

“A great leader’s courage to fulfill his vision comes from passion, not position.”

 – John Maxwell

I would love to have you say the same thing after having me speak to your firm.

This has been such a gift to our agents when they need it the most. The fact that you come, you are so genuine and caring, you are so honest, you are not trying to sell anything and your passion to help each and every person believe in themselves and become the best they can be is HUGE! The timing is perfect for us all helping and caring about each other, so, thank YOU from the bottom of my heart for giving of yourself to help all of us!”

—Carolyn Summerton // First Mortgage Company of Idaho

I enjoyed your seminar and its focus. I was on the fence whether or not to attend and decided why not? I could have sat through an all day session if there was one, usually I end up at the seminars that start with a focus and quickly go astray. I found with yours time flew by too fast and it was already time to go but I wasn’t ready to go.”

—Scott Asbill, CDPE // Associate Broker, Realtor
